Buttercloth Clothing

Born in Vietnam, Danh Tran grew up working in his family’s small tailor shop. He landed his first job at Mattel designing clothes for Barbie and was later recruited by 7 for All Mankind, then House of Howe (Union Bay), and later Affliction Clothing.

Danh always hated wearing dress shirts, so he set out to make a dress shirt that felt like his favorite t-shirt. He developed a profoundly soft fabric he named “Buttercloth.” The shirt has an incredible breathability, 6-way stretch and an exclusive double finished construction that Danh says, “makes you look like a Friday night, but feel like a Sunday morning.”

After 10 years with Affliction, Danh quit his job, sold his house, and cashed in his 401K to start the company. In 2017, Danh met Los Angeles Lakers star, Metta World Peace, who was so impressed with the shirt that he invested in the company. In October 2018, Danh was invited to the show ABC’s Shark Tank , and viewers watched him make a $250,00 deal with investor Robert Herjavec who is helping to grow the Buttercloth brand worldwide.

Since then, customers have grown to love the fit and appreciate the signature details found in every Buttercloth® garment – often prompting the question, “Where did you get that shirt?”
